MP Doug Shipley announces hundreds of Canada Summer Jobs now available for young Canadians

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 20, 2021 – Doug Shipley, Member of Parliament for Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte, announced that Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) opportunities are now available for youth in the riding at www.jobbank.gc.ca/youth.

A total of 658 local job opportunities are available for youth in Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte from 128 employers.

“Canada Summer Jobs opportunities will help youth in our community discover different careers, gain meaningful experiences, and save up for school and their futures,” said MP Shipley. “The COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging on all Canadians, and especially on young Canadians. This program will have a positive effect on youth in our community.”

CSJ helps youth gain the skills and experience they need to successfully transition to the labour market by providing wage subsidies to employers to create employment opportunities. The program strives to give young Canadians between the ages of 15 and 30 paid work opportunities so that they can grow professionally and improve their skills in the not-for-profit, small business and public sectors. It also supports the delivery of key community services to Canadians.

In response to the ongoing pandemic, employers now have the flexibility to hire youth to work on a full-time or part-time basis, as well as beyond the summer months with some placements extending to February 2022. CSJ 2021 also includes an increased wage subsidy, so that private and public sector employers can receive up to 75 percent of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage for each employee.
