MP Doug Shipley announces over $100,000 in federal funding for local seniors’ programs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 18, 2021 – Doug Shipley, Member of Parliament for Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte, announced $106,299 in funding from the Government of Canada to support seniors programs in the riding.

This funding will support six local organizations that deliver programs which help seniors stay active, informed and socially connected in their community. The funding was awarded under the 2020-21 New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) community-based steam.

“I am pleased to announce this funding which will have a direct positive impact on our seniors in Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte,” MP Shipley said. “Far too many seniors face isolation in their retirement years, and this past year has been especially hard on seniors. This funding will empower seniors by supporting opportunities for older Canadians to stay involved and engaged in their communities.”

Funding has been awarded to Catholic Family Services of Simcoe County; Barrie Native Friendship Centre; Barrie Pickleball Club Ltd.; Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie; Ontario Musicians Co-Operative Inc.; and The Prevention of Senior Abuse Network-Simcoe County.

NHSP is a federal grants and contributions program that supports projects led or inspired by seniors who are making a difference in the lives of others in their communities. Every year, organizations across Canada are invited to apply for NHSP funding through a call for proposals for community-based projects that empower seniors in their communities and contribute to improving their health and well-being.
